Escalator Step Installation Instructions

1. Installation and removal of steps

The steps need to be installed on the step chain shaft to form a stable step combination, and run along the direction of the ladder guide rail under the traction of the step chain.

1-1. Connection method

(1) Bolt fastening connection

An axial positioning block is designed on one side of the step chain shaft. The installation of the sleeve needs to be based on the positioning block to limit the left and right movement of the step. A locking component is added and fixed on the other side of the sleeve. When the step is inserted into the sleeve, the bolt is tightened to make the step and the sleeve tightly connected.

2Pin positioning method

Positioning holes are machined in the sleeve and the step connector, and a positioning spring pin is installed on the step connector side. After the step connector is inserted into the positioning sleeve, the sleeve positioning hole is adjusted to align with the step connector, and then the positioning spring pin is pulled out to make the positioning pin inserted into the sleeve positioning hole to achieve a tight connection between the step and the step chain.

1-2. Disassembly method

Usually, the steps are removed in the horizontal section, which is more convenient and safer than the inclined section. Before removal, the escalator needs to be prepared for safety protection, and safety guardrails should be placed in the upper and lower horizontal sections and ensure that they are fixed.

Disassembly steps:

1Stop the elevator and place safety guardrails.

2Remove the step guard.

3Use the inspection box to move the steps that need to be removed to the machine room on the lower horizontal section.

4Disconnect main power and lock out.

5Remove the fastening bolts, or lift the spring latch (using a special tool), then remove the step sleeve and take the step out of the step chain.

2. Damage and replacement of steps

2-1. Tooth groove damage

The most common cause of step damage is damage to the pedal 3teeth.

Front of step: wheels of luggage cart.

Middle of the pedal: caused by the tip of a high-heeled shoe, the tip of an umbrella or other sharp and hard objects inserted into the tooth groove. If the tooth groove is damaged so that the tooth clearance is greater than the specified value, the step or tread plate must be replaced (for stainless steel combination steps, only the tread plate can be replaced).

2-2. Structural damage of steps

When the step cannot pass through the comb teeth smoothly and collides with the comb plate, the step structure will be damaged and the step needs to be replaced as a whole. The probability of this happening is relatively small.

2-3. Wear of step pedals

After years of use, the step treads will wear out. When the tooth groove depth is lower than the specified value, for safety reasons, it is necessary to replace the step as a whole or replace the tread plate (for stainless steel combination steps, only the tread plate can be replaced).
